Spin and Climate
The work consists of two items - a fan and a wind chime - and was constructed over a few months. The fan, demonstrating the more 'big P' political side of Korbel's work, is a reflection on political spin and the difficulty of turning 'hot air' into effective action. The inspiration here was taken from the Bhutan's prayer flags, where the locals use the flags as a conduit to transport their prayers to God. This message is only fully developed when viewed in conjunction with the chimes. The chime would require gale force winds to actually act as a chime. The separation between the two elements is symbolic of the gulf in policy, practice and effective action. Critic's note: Korbel plays with the concept of spaces here - getting more adventurous and playful about using the gallery space to his advantage
