Insect in Forest

In this installation Korbel has visualised an insect on a tree. The insect is made of metal. The trees are discarded utility poles. This is a reflection on the rape of the natural environment. Organic living beings have been replaced by the detritus of the human world. Although the work is initially pleasing to look at, the allegorical content is disturbing.

Critic’s note: Paired with Shoes of the beneficiation worker, this is part of an emerging environmental and ecological consciousness in Korbel’s work. The recent addition to his family seems to have brought on this new mood.
